Kumhee Lee, CELLIST

Kumhee Lee, a native of South Korea, recognized for her distinctive tone and refined technique, graduated from Ewha Womans University before moving to the United States, where she earned both her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Stony Brook University. She has expanded the horizons of music through various projects, including co-hosting the podcast <Bookwheel>, lectures on <The Cellist Who Reads Books> and <Western Music History through Books> at Seoul Citizen University, and appearing as an interviewee in the documentary <Stradivarius and the Future of the Playing Human>. Her career as a classical performer includes serving as a guest principal for the Jeonju Symphony Orchestra and performing as a guest member of Quattro Ewha and Etica Ensemble. As a member of Ensemble <Si-Zak>, she has performed on KBS Gukak Hanmadang, Gugak FM, and Seoul Music Week. She also continues her performance activities with <Golden Pine Duo> at venues such as Lotte Concert Hall, Ilshin Hall, Geumnarae Library, and Doksan Library. Through various projects—including the opening performance of the Seoul Center for Culture & Arts Education (Seocho), improvisation workshops, <Scent of Sound>, SPAF <Witness Stand>, Dotolim, Seoul International Improvisation Dance Festival, and the Emahoy Tribute Concert—she has established a unique artistic world that transcends classical boundaries to explore space, sound, and the relationship with the audience. Currently, she is actively engaged in diverse contemporary art scenes through her work in classical, contemporary, and improvised music.

독보적인 음색과 테크닉으로 많은 관객을 사로잡는 첼리스트 이금희는 이화여자대학교를 졸업 후 도미하여 뉴욕 스토니브룩 주립대에서 석사 및 박사 학위를 취득하였다. 귀국 후, 팟캐스트 <책바퀴> 공동 진행, 서울시민대학 <책 읽어주는 첼리스트>, <책으로 읽는 서양음악사> 강의 및 다큐멘터리 <스트라디바리우스 그리고 연주하는 인간의 미래> 인터뷰를 진행하며 음악의 인문학적 저변을 넓히는 시도를 이어왔다. 전주시립교향악단 객원수석, 콰트로 이화, 에티카 앙상블 객원 단원으로 활동하였으며, 앙상블 <시작>의 멤버로 KBS 국악한마당, 국악방송, 서울뮤직위크 무대에 섰다. 또한 <골든파인듀오>의 멤버로 롯데콘서트홀, 일신홀, 금나래도서관 등지에서 연주 활동을 지속하고 있다. 서울문화문화예술 교육센터 서초 개관공연, 즉흥워크샵, <소리의 향>, 중력장 <건축무한미분음계>, SPAF <Witness Stand>, 닻올림, 서울즉흥춤페스티벌, Emahoy 헌정 음악회 등의 프로젝트를 통해 클래식을 넘어 공간과 소리, 관객과의 관계를 탐구하는 독자적인 예술세계를 구축하였다. 현재, 클래식과 현대음악 그리고 즉흥음악을 통해 동시대의 다양한 예술 현장에서 활약 중이다.
